Pearl, Mississippi
Pearl, Mississippi is home to famous Mississippians such as country singer LeAnn Rimes and Buffalo Bills’ football player Justin Jenkins. The city itself, named after the Pearl River, is considered part of the Jackson Metropolitan Area. Pearl, however, is the largest city within Rankin County and is the thirteenth largest city in Mississippi. Similar in size to Brandon, the city of Pearl is only twenty-two square miles. Pearl’s population is around 23,986 people.
Pearl has one public high school, Pearl High School, which received a rating of “Level 5 (Superior Performance)” based on students’ test scores. Pearl High School’s soccer team has achieved the title of 4-A State Champions five years in a row. In 1999, Pearl High School’s band performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City and won the 5-A State Championship in 2011. Private schools in Pearl include Faith Academy, which includes pre-kindergarten through eighth grade, and Park Place Christian Academy, which will graduate its first ever senior class in May 2012. Pearl’s chief newspaper is the Rankin Ledger.
Baseball field Trustmark Park is located in Pearl as well. Trustmark Park is the home of Mississippi’s Class AA minor league team, the Mississippi Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves. The Mississippi Braves play in the Southern League of minor league baseball.
